Life at Creamier: Eugene Wee Talks About Why Creamier is Not Only About Ice Cream

This 2018, Creamier turns 7, and to celebrate this milestone, we wanted to focus on several individuals who have helped shape Creamier throughout the years, seeing us grow into the ice cream brand we are today.

The “7 Moments of Happiness” campaign focuses on these individuals and their journeys in life. It’s a series of fireside chats with people from our community who have constantly supported us, and who have eventually become good friends of Creamier. Always be in great company.

When we think about coffee in Creamier, we think about Eugene. Having been in the company for around seven years, Eugene started out as a part-timer, and eventually transitioned into his role today as Head Barista and Operations Executive, with his main focus on the beverage component of the business. For the past few months, Eugene was based in Shanghai for our Sunday Folks pop-up; now that he’s back, we sit down with him and have a chat about his work, and how coffee has played a huge part in his life.

What does a typical work day look like for Eugene Wee?

Waking up and preparing a freshly-brewed cup of coffee has became a routine that I enjoy immensely; it’s the proper start to my day. Then, I check my work emails and answer work-related messages before heading to do my shift work. At work, I will keep track of the team’s baristas to ensure that they are up to standards with their knowledge and skills as to ensure quality control across all shops.

What keeps you constantly curious and passionate about coffee? 

Its intricacies, along with how it can be paired to complement our other offerings such as ice creams.

What does a Moment of Happiness look like to you?

Since I enjoy coffee a lot, a moment of happiness happens whenever I taste an unassuming cup of coffee that ends up surprising me with all its nuances and bursting flavours. Similarly, it also happens upon witnessing a customer enjoying their beverage, like a simple nod or a smile on their face. It’s great when a customer truly enjoys what you recommend from the menu and voices out their happiness.

What would you say is your favourite Creamier ice cream flavour?

Mango Passionfruit Sorbet, especially on a hot summer day. It holds a memory that I cherish.
