Say Hello to the New Creamier Toa Payoh!

Aug 14, 2024Wan Chin Khoh

Last 30 June 2019, we said goodbye to our first-ever Creamier outlet located at Blk. 128 Toa Payoh Lorong 1. Since we announced its closure, we have been extremely grateful for the warm support from the community in helping us find a new space. Toa Payoh has always been the first choice to relocate to as this is where our roots are dug deep in.

We are elated to finally announce that a new Creamier Toa Payoh will be operating on soft opening starting Tuesday, 08 October 2019 with its location at Blk. 131 Toa Payoh Lorong 1 #01-02 Singapore 310131—right across the road from our former outlet! The official opening (and celebration of Creamier’s 8th anniversary) will be on Tuesday, 19 November 2019.

We are incredibly lucky for such an opportunity, and to add on to this, there will be something exciting happening in this new space.

Ever since our ice cream journey began, Creamier has always been involved in giving back to the community in our own little ways. For our new Creamier Toa Payoh space, we are proud to partner with The Food Bank Singapore (FBSG) to co-create a space for The Food Pantry 2.0. The Food Pantry 2.0 is a step up from the original model of The Food Pantry, by featuring fully-automated Smart Vending Machines that are available around-the-clock to distribute food aid to beneficiaries anytime the need arises, to optimise the use of excess food and to provide better matching of food needs and supply.

The Food Pantry 2.0 stocks food with a shorter shelf life (four weeks or less) at just $2 each and acts as a distribution point for free emergency food aid to its beneficiaries. FBSG (www.foodbank.sg) is Singapore’s first food bank, and it aims to be the prevailing centralised coordinating organisation for all food donations in Singapore. Its mission is to bridge potential donors and members (beneficiaries), and it complements charities’ food donation efforts by helping them obtain better access to excess food. FBSG is also finding creative and alternative ways to maximise the use of excess food.

“We always had plans to re-open The Food Pantry because we genuinely felt there was a gap to fill," says Nichol Ng, Chief Food Officer of the Food Bank Singapore. "Not only is there a ready lower income clientele sourcing for very low cost food, but more importantly, The Food Pantry always has a role to dish our free emergency food aid. When you need food, you need food. Currently, most food distribution programmes take place during office hours, but hunger can strike anytime.”

Hence, our brand-new Toa Payoh space will be divided into two areas. The first area will be the new Creamier Handcrafted Ice Cream & Coffee, where we will retain the same spirit and menu as before. The other area will be PIKO, short for “pick-and-go”. PIKO is a socially-oriented partnership between Creamier and FBSG; the first of its kind in Singapore. Creamier is sponsoring the space and utilities for the Food Pantry to operate and also to act as a food collection point where anyone can donate non-perishable food that are unopened, unused and with at least four weeks of shelf life. Separately, PIKO will also offer a range of selected product offerings such as frozen meals, beverages, snacks, household items and prepaid mobile cards to bring convenience to the residents.

“We are really excited to work with FBSG on this new social space concept. We are very grateful for the opportunity to join resources between a small business enterprise like ours and a strong social enterprise to create meaningful usage of shop space within a residential area to serve the community. Through the sponsorship of space and utilities for the Food Pantry vending machines in this pilot programme, we aim to contribute towards the fight against food hunger and food wastage. Hopefully this is the start of a new eco-system of how businesses co-work with social enterprises to contribute back to community,” says Khoh Wan Chin, co-founder of Creamier.

Hopefully, and through this community-centric initiative, we get to see more moments of happiness flourish in Toa Payoh and beyond. PIKO will be officially open on Wednesday, 16 October, which is also World Food Day. Let the feeding begin and see you at Creamier!
